Having looked at the individual match-ups of the season, it’s hard not to think the schedule looks easier this year than previous years. That’s par for the course in the NFL, however, and it’s about time we are matched with another division that isn’t stacked, (maybe even two). The key to this season will unquestionably be the games against the NFC North, along with winning the games that should be won. I remember growing up the Lions would win the games they should have lost and would lose the games they should win. They can’t afford for that to happen this season. Here’s a look at my season prediction in terms of simple win/loss:

1 – St. Louis – Win
2 – @ San Francisco – Win
3 – @ Tennessee – Win
4 – Minnesota – Win
6 – @ Philadelphia – Loss
7 – @ Chicago – Loss
8 – Seattle – Win
9 – @ Jacksonville – Win
10 – @ Minnesota – Win
11 – Green Bay – Loss
12 – Houston – Win
13 – Indianapolis – Win
14 – @ Green Bay – Win
15 – @ Arizona – Win
16 – Atlanta – Loss
17 – Chicago – Win

Looking over the schedule it’s hard not to get excited. Maybe it’s because for the first time in a long time, the Lions can realistically beat anybody. I’m sure my opinion will change once the preseason gets rolling and the real action starts, but looking from the outset of training camp, and I think 12-4 is very realistic.

{Q1}So the LIONS draw New Orleans as their Wild Card match up. Convince DMR how they can POSSIBLY beat the odds and come out victorious…

The Lions have put a good body of work in the regular season. Now they parallel to 11 other teams in the NFL. The fact that the Lions are giving the Saint 11 points is ridiculous. I think it is the lack of fundamental shown in Green Bay last week. The Lions are who they are. Dropped balls, penalties, crazy to think all that will just evaporate for the playoffs. They have to play better, duh! Now is not the time to teach or try to “get better”. Its time to win.

On to the keys to the Lions winning.

Stafford must stay in tune. Let the game plan play out. Allow Scott Linehan to work the adjustments and execute, execute, execute.

Pressure to reroute the Brees. The St. Louis Ram sacked 6 times and the Rams won. The defensive line is healthy and legal to play. Nick Fairley was having his way with the Saint interior line before going to the sideline with an injury in he previous meeting. Ndamukong Suh was suspended and key reserve Lawrence Jackson was injured. The defensive gave up big plays for scores and who ever is rushing he passer (DB’s LB’s also) need to get there.

Gunther Cunningham vs. Sean Peyton. Cunningham said that he wanted another shot at the Saints with a healthy defense. Well the motto for this Lions season here at DMR has been no excuses no explanations. In addition to not having Fairley for he whole game missing Suh and Jackson, the Lions were without Louis Delams and Chris Houston. All the pieces are present. Play chess.

2011 NCAA Tournament participants Oakland University and the University of Michigan will meet up at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday, December 10, 2011 @ 4pm

Get the most picks correct to win tickets to Oakland University and the University of Michigan Game at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The tie breaker goes to the participant  that selects the closets total score of the Lions Saints Game. The Winner will be announced on Monday’s DMR Show.

Future Hall of Famer Corner-back Charles Woodson played three years with the University of Michigan and won a National Championship in 1997. That year he won the Heisman Trophy and was later drafted forth overall to the Oakland Raiders. Woodson helped the Raiders to reach Super Bowl XXXVII where they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2006 Woodson became a member of the Green Bay Packers. Keep in mind that Charles Woodson has an interception in both the National Championship and in Super Bowl XXXVII. “Big Players Make Big Plays in Big Games.”

Desmond Howard also played three years with the University of Michigan and decided the go to the NFL after winning the Heisman Trophy in 1991. Howard was drafted forth overall  by Washington Redskins and played with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and the Detroit Lions. During his time with the Packers Howard was voted the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXI and is the only special teams player to win the award.

  1. Both are from Ohio: Desmond is from Cleveland, Woodson form Fremont
  2. Both Played for University of Michigan: Desmond 1989-1991, Woodson 1995-1997
  3. Both won the Heisman Trophy: Desmond 1991 (Only Wide Receiver to win) , Woodson 1997 (Only Defensive player to win)
  4. Both played 3 years of college football
  5. Both played for the Oakland Raiders : Desmond 1997-1998, Woodson 1998-2005
  6. Both played for the Green Bay Packers: Desmond 1996-1999, Woodson 2006-Present
  7. Both will play in a Super Bowl for the Green Bay Packers: Desmond Super Bowl XXXI (Won MVP) , Woodson XXXVII

The big question is will they both win a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers. The lottery would be if the Packers won and Charles Woodson won the MVP.
