My Two Cents: I love this show. It’s one the funniest and well written shows out there! Dark Shadows (PASS)

Starring: Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green

Synopsis: An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.

My Two Cents: I had high hopes for this one cause those who know me know I’m a huge fan of vampire stories… But this one was a let down. It’s just extremely slow moving and not enough going on the justify the pace. Tim Burtons flicks are hit and miss for me, I just wish this was a hit cause I’m a huge fan of the majority of this cast. But sadly that wasn’t enough to save it. Pass!

Silent House (PASS)

Starring: Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese and Eric Sheffer Stevens

Synopsis: Trapped inside her family’s lakeside retreat, a young woman finds she is unable to contact the outside world as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house.

My Two Cents: It was an interesting experiment but I felt it didn’t work as well as they had hoped. If they would have been following multiple characters than just one. I think that would have been more interesting.

Special Features:

DVD/Blu-ray Features

-FEATURE COMMENTARY:  Co-director Chris Kentis and screenwriter/co-director Laura Lau participate.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season 1 (BUY)

Starring: Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes

Synopsis: Set decades after Captain James T. Kirk’s 5-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers in a new Enterprise set off on their own mission to go where no one has gone before.

My Two Cents: I have been hooked on this show ever since I saw it when I was a kid. I wasn’t a fan of the original series, this is the one that made me a trekie. Over the course of the series, the characters deepen and it gets to be more and more interesting.

Starring: Kevin Smith, Stan Lee and Eli Roth and Many more…

Synopsis: A behind-the-scenes look at the fans who gather by the thousands each year in San Diego, California to attend Comic-Con, the world’s largest comic book convention.

My Two Cents: The phenomenon of San Diego’s Comic-con has grown to astronomic levels in both attendance and exhibition since it’s inception in 1970. And director Morgan Spurlock decided to chronicle the 2010 con, and follow a select few to document their reasons for being there, and their experience. In a word Awesome!

Superman vs. The Elite (BUY)

Starring: George Newbern, Pauley Perrette and Steve Blum

Synopsis: The Man of Steel finds himself outshone by a new team of ruthless superheroes who hold his idealism in contempt.

My Two Cents: I would put this up right next to the Batman/Superman animated movie. An extremely well done Superman story that touches on the major moral aspects of a superhero as powerful as Superman. The action was all great, felt like they made really good use of Superman’s powers and strength… which sometimes they forget to do.

Special Features:
DVD/Blu-ray Features

-A Sneak Peek at Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (Coming Fall 2012)

-The Upcoming Dark Knight Rises Theatrical Release Photo Gallery

Safe House (BUY)

No One Is Safe…

Starring: Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds and Robert Patrick

Synopsis: A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.

My Two Cents: Denzel Washington walks effortlessly through the role of Tobin Frost. And Ryan Reynolds held his own against Washington, playing the younger, inexperienced agent who learns fast. Over all this was an awesome action/spy flick with two fine actors playing their roles perfectly.

Special Features:

DVD/Blu-ray Features
-Making Safe House

-Hand-to-Hand action

-Building the Rooftop Chase

-Inside the CIA

You can only push an innocent man so far…

Starring: Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks and Jamie Bell

Synopsis: As a police psychologist works to talk down an ex-con who is threatening to jump from a Manhattan hotel rooftop, the biggest diamond heist ever committed is in motion…

My Two Cents:
This movie turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I was already a huge fan of Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Banks of course. But this flick manages to hold you on the edge of your seat with a good story and some great twists and turns.
It’s well worth checking out.

Special Features:

DVD/Blu-ray Features

-”The Ledge” featurette

The Woman in Black (RENT)

Do you believe in ghosts?

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Janet McTeer and Ciarán Hinds

Synopsis: A young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.

My Two Cents: I thought it was a great horror flick. Most movies these days get loss in blood and gore which to be fair is still awesome and works but thankfully this movie took a turn to what horror actually is. I’d like to see more horror movies like this one!

Special Features:

Blu-ray/DVD Features

-Audio commentary with Director James Watkins

-Inspire the Perfect Thriller: Making the Woman in Black

-No Fear: Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur Kipps

Chronicle (BUY)

Boys will be boys…

Starring: Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan

Synopsis: Three high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.

This film is a lot of fun. Director Josh Trank breathes new life into the ‘Blair Witch’ gimmick taking “found footage” from a wide array of hand-held gadgetry to create a pretty convincing collage. This flick was just amazingly well done.

Special Features:

DVD/Blu-ray Features

-Deleted Scenes

-Pre-Viz

Synopsis: When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.

-Blooper Reel

-”Heavy Prey” Music Video by Lacey Sturm featuring Geno Lenardo

Haywire (PASS)

They left her no choice…

Starring: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender

Synopsis: A black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.

The film’s got a simple, but hugely unoriginal plot and also suffers from the fact that it doesn’t have a climax, it just simply stops. Not kidding… But on the plus side Gina Carano acquits herself very well, especially so given the fact that she is carrying the movie on her inexperienced shoulders. Sadly that’s not enough to save it. Pass!

Special Features:

DVD/Blu-ray Features

-Gina Carano in Training

-The Men of Haywire

Contraband (RENT)

What would you hide to protect your family?…

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Beckinsale

Synopsis: To protect his brother-in-law from a drug lord, a former smuggler heads to Panama to score millions of dollars in counterfeit bills.

I love crime thrillers, and I was hoping for this to be an enjoyable ride. It’s got a great cast and I’m always game for a solid new entry into this genre. Unfortunately, there was so much of it that didn’t work but still an enjoyable flick regardless. Rent it, and see if it’s you’re kind of crime drama…

Special Features:

-Deleted Scenes

-Under the Radar: The Making of Contraband

-Reality Factor: The Stunts and Action of Contraband

-Feature Commentary with Director/Producer Baltasar Kormákur and Producer Evan Hayes
