Movie Review: Silent House

Review for Silent House

Written by Josh Stiltner.

Silent House starring Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese and Eric Sheffer Stevens. After becoming trapped inside her family’s lakeside retreat, a young woman (Elizabeth Olsen) finds she is unable to contact the outside world as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house. After seeing the trailer for this film, I was very interested. They hooked me with the whole “you’ll experience 88 minutes of terror in real time.” I mean I enjoy a good classic scary house movie, but sadly this one really didn’t live up to that title. Though I thought it was interesting how they shot it, making it look like the camera never once cut away. So from that standpoint its quite impressive, very well done but even the dramatic and edgy camera angles couldn’t save this movie. The lead actress Elizabeth Olsen did a descent job, but not as well as would have hoped. A good scary house flick needs thrills, atmosphere and suspense which this was sorely lacking. That along with it being a tad on the predictable side made this film a little disappointing for me. So sadly I’m going to have to say skip this one.
